Parent and Students,
While we are away I would encourage students to get at least 30 minutes of I-Ready daily during the week. We do reading on Monday and Tuesday while we reserve math for Wednesdays and Thursday. In addition, it would be beneficial for students to continue getting their 30 minutes of reading a day. In our links resources we have options for online reading. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me!

Student-Athletes,
If you are interested in joining track or just looking for a way to keep active while you are away from school please follow the link to get your track workouts for the week. Again, please email if you have any questions. Student-athletes will still need their physical and permission slips n order to formally join the junior high track team. We are aiming to start on April 6th!

READING
The Lucy Calkins reading curriculum will be used for whole group instruction along with individual and small group conferencing to reinforce the skills being practiced. We plan to begin the curriculum later this week.
Students should read at least 30 minutes each night. I've met with each student to establish their first trimester reading goal which is due November 15. It's no secret that students who read regularly experience greater academic success. Please encourage your child to read daily. Ask them to tell you about the books they're reading. If you have a reluctant reader, try reading with your child. Either ask your child to read to you, or take turns reading alternate pages. Families who read together inspire great readers!
Our class will visit the C.U.E.S. Library every WEDNESDAY. Students will have the opportunity to check out books each week. Books must be renewed each week. They may also check out books from our classroom library.
Throughout the year, we will read aloud different novels as a whole class to learn about genres, the writer's purpose, text structure and literary techniques. We've started the year with the Newberry Medal novel, "The Giver", by Lois Lowry. Students will take an Accelerated Reader quiz on this novel, and it will count as a grade and toward their first trimester reading goal.
