WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS (June 1 - 5, 2020): Note - Updates posted after Monday of each week are highlighted in red below.
PLEASE ALSO LOOK FOR UPDATES ON OUR SIXTH-GRADE HOME PAGE.
#1 Priority: Your physical and emotional well-being are our #1 priority. Please try to get enough rest to regenerate your body, exercise to strengthen your body, and nutritious food to nourish your body. If your family needs food support, the following resources are available in Brooklyn:
Weekly Meetings: Links will be posted in our Reading Google Classroom. All sixth-grade teachers will remain available, at their computers, until 10:00 a.m. following each meeting
Academic Assignments for the Week: Weekly assignments are provided with Friday as a goal for completion. Students should check all Google Classrooms EVERY DAY as updates may be posted. Students should complete 60 minutes of i-Ready Reading, 60 minutes of i-Ready Math and pass a lesson in each subject every week (or complete a paper packet for each subject weekly if technology prohibits the use of online i-Ready).
epic! Reading: Email invitations were sent to parents for access to epic! reading. There are lots of great books available for you to enjoy for FREE! If you did not receive an email and you are interested in having access to epic!, please let me know and I will follow up. Epic! is offering free remote access through June 30. Happy reading!
Library Card: If you are able to do so and do not already have one, go to the Jackson District Library link on our Reading Google Classroom page and sign up for a digital library card.
Remember to join "remind" if you have not already done so. The link to join is on our Sixth-Grade Weebly Home page.
Reading Message to Parents: Please encourage your student to read at least 30 minutes per day while school is closed so they do not lose the gains they’ve made this school year. It's no secret that students who read regularly experience greater academic success. Ask your child to tell you about the books they're reading. If you have a reluctant reader, try reading with your child. Either ask your child to read to you, or take turns reading alternate pages. Families who read together inspire great readers! If your student struggles with recall, remind them to go back and scan what they've already read to refresh their memory. Completion of daily stop & jots may also help with recall and comprehension.
